Reading Empowers | Promoting Literacy Among Young Students in NYC

Reading Empowers is dedicated to promoting literacy among students in New York City's elementary schools.

Research has shown that developing reading skills at an early age is crucial for a student’s intellectual development and future academic success.

Students who lack proficiency in reading and writing are at high risk for failure in content subjects and are ultimately less likely to pursue post-secondary education.

71 percent of fourth graders in New York's public schools are reading below proficient levels.

An even higher percentage of New York's public school's eighth graders, 76 percent, are reading below proficient levels.

Reading Empowers is proud to announce that we are expanding to P.S. 184 Shuang Wen in Manhattan this spring! In collaboration with APEX, we will be hosting reading sessions from 10:30AM to 12:15PM on the following dates:

We are actively seeking volunteers to instill a love of reading and improve literacy among the wonderful students at P.S. 184!

Reading Sessions

In partnership with APEX, we will continue to host reading sessions this spring semester at P.S. 1 in Manhattan from 10:30AM to 12:15PM. Below are the dates of the sessions:
