Our volunteers bring our mission to life.
Reading Empowers' volunteers come from all over New York City. They contribute their Saturday mornings to our organization at various elementary schools, sharing their love and passion for reading. Each volunteer brings his or her own story as to why they support the mission Reading Empowers is carrying out.
All individuals are required to complete an application and a background check before they are able to volunteer. All volunteers are required to attend orientation in preparation for working with the students as well.
Reading Empowers also plans appreciation dinners, open mic nights, and various other gatherings to increase volunteer interaction and networking with each other.
